The work is made to honor the memory of my father Domingo, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 93 and when fifteen years had passed since I last hugged him. He was a self-made man who obtained the highest rank as a Mason. When I was eleven, he took me for the entrance examination to the San Alejandro School of Arts, and that changed my life forever. When I left home for good, he said “Make your life, do not look forward”, which I understood just after his death. The separation from my father caused me tachycardia and insomnia for years. Our only contact was through his neighbour’s phone until senility was eroding his health, and little by little his physical condition became so bad that he couldn’t get out of bed. Every time I finish an edition, I offer a toast to his image.

Teos on tehty isäni Domingon muistolle. Hän kuoli 93-vuotiaana vuonna 2012, jolloin oli kulunut 15 vuotta siitä, kun viimeksi olin halannut häntä. Hän oli aina ollut oman onnensa seppä, ja saavutti korkean aseman työssään muurarina. Kun olin 11-vuotias, hän vei minut San Alejandron taidekoulun pääsykokeisiin, mikä muutti elämäni lopullisesti. Kun muutin pois kotoa, hän sanoi “tee oma elämäsi, älä mieti tulevaa”. Ymmärsin sanojen merkityksen vasta hänen kuolemansa jälkeen. Ero isästäni aiheutti minulle rytmihäiriöitä ja unettomuutta vuosien ajan. Ainoa kontaktimme tapahtui naapurin puhelimen välityksellä, kunnes vähä vähältä hänen kuntonsa huononi niin paljon, ettei hän lopulta päässyt ylös sängystä. Aina kun saan vedoksen valmiiksi, nostan maljan hänen kuvaansa katsoen.
