Taiteessani en tavallisesti ole kuvannut ihmisiä. Erään taideprojektin yhteydessä päätin kuitenkin käyttää äitiäni mallina. Lähtökohtani oli pieni 5×5 cm passikuva. Äitini oli maailman kiltein ihminen, mutta myös se, joka vahvan vakaumuksensa takia yritti johdattaa ja samalla rajoittaa elämäni. Suhteeni häneen ensimmäisten lapsuusvuosien jälkeen muuttui monimutkaiseksi ja johti siihen, että monista asioista ei puhuttu. Hänen kuolemansa jälkeen ja työstäessäni teosta mietin, kuinka eri mahdollisuudet ja elämän tapahtumien kulku sijoittavat meidät eri asemiin ja mitkä valinnanvapaudet ihmisellä oikeastaan on. Tämä vedos on ensimmäinen sarjasta, jossa kuvasin äitiäni eri rooleissa, ja tässä vedoksessa tunnen että olemme toisiamme hyvin lähellä.

In my art, I have not usually depicted people. However, for an art project I decided to use my mother as a model. My starting point was a small 5×5 cm passport photo. My mother was the kindest person in the world, but also the one who, because of her strong convictions, tried to guide and at the same time limit my life. My relationship with her after the first years of childhood became complicated and led to many things not being discussed. After her death and while working on the piece, I wondered how different opportunities and life events place us in different positions and what choices people actually have. This print is the first in a series in which I portrayed my mother in different roles, and in this print I feel that we are very close to each other.
