The black-and-white linocuts depict the hurricanes and storms that ravage the world in this age as part of the climate change. We tend to name such severe weather phenomena; Sandy, Nemo, Katrina, Xaver, Hercules… This always strikes me as little odd, isn’t it so that we usually name something we love? To me these things make such a weather phenomenon become a mythical person that people try to battle and subdue, a ruthless giant, blind and without any remorse.

Mustavalkoiset linoleikkaukseni kuvaavat hurrikaaneja ja myrskyjä, jotka tuhoavat maailmaa tänä ilmastokriisin aikana. Meillä on tapana nimetä tällaisia sääilmiöitä: Sandy, Nemo, Katrina, Xaver, Hercules… Minusta tämä on aina tuntunut erikoiselta. Eikö yleensä ole niin, että vain rakkaille asioille annetaan nimi? Koen, että antaessamme myrskylle nimen, sääilmiöstä tulee myyttinen henkilö: armoton, sokea ja katumaton jättiläinen, jonka ihmiset yrittävät nujertaa.
