Almost two decades ago, I realized my first “professional” project as a visual artist during a residency at the Jyväskylä Printmaking Centre. I developed a project where I invited people in the city to tell me stories about their past based on a meaningful object they own, in exchange for the stories, I offered every participant an original print created around their narration and our encounter. My recent lithography work speaks directly to the profound artistic and human exploration I experienced during this half-year residency. With time and as expressed in this print, it has become apparent that my art practice is about hearing untold stories from the past and trying to give voice to the invisible.

Melkein kaksi vuosikymmentä sitten, toteutin ensimmäisen “ammattimaisen” projektini kuvataiteilijana, ollessani residenssissä Jyväskylän grafiikan keskuksessa. Kehitin projektin, jossa kutsuin kaupunkilaisia luokseni kertomaan tarinoita menneisyydestään jonkin heille merkityksellisen esineen kautta. Tarinoiden vastineeksi tarjosin osallistujille heidän tarinaansa perustuvan printin. Viimeaikaiset litografian työni kuvaavat suoraan tätä syvällistä, taiteellista ja inhimillistä tutkimusmatkaa, jonka koin puolen vuoden mittaisen residenssini aikana. Minulle on tullut selväksi, että taiteessani on kyse vaiettujen menneisyyden tarinoiden kertomisesta, sekä äänen antamisesta näkymättömissä oleville.
