My wife and I grow wild milkweed plants in our North American garden. We welcome the arrival of pollenating creatures who travel north from their beginnings in Mexico and Central America. Many of these were Monarch butterflies. The work is in honor of Homero Gomez Gonzalez, manager of Mexico’s El Rosario monarch butterfly sanctuary who was apparently murdered for his activism in helping preserve the trees that Monarchs thrive in. He along with Raul Hernandez Romero (also murdered) worked to prevent development of the land and removal of the trees so central to the monarch’s survival.
