For about six months, my coworker’s 7year old daughter spent long hours in the studio with me as the Recherchebreen prints were being developed. She contributed thoughts to the color of the inks, how the plates should be oriented. We also chatted about Arctic sea ice and the climate crisis on a level she could begin to understand. This was deeply special experience especially when she and her family moved away over the summer as I was destroying these plates and printing them in new, larger formats which emphasize loss and uncertain futures.

Noin puolen vuoden ajan työkaverini 7-vuotias tytär vietti pitkiä päiviä kanssani studiolla, kun kehitin Recherchebreen-printtejä. Hän osallistui kertomalla ajatuksiaan musteiden väreistä ja siitä, miten painolevyt tulisi asettaa. Keskustelimme myös napajäätiköistä ja ilmastokriisistä tavalla, jonka hän pystyi ymmärtämään. Tämä oli todella erityinen kokemus erityisesti siksi, että hän muutti perheineen pois sillä välin kun minä tuhosin nämä levyt ja painatin teokset uusina, suurempina versioina – painottaakseni menetystä ja tulevaisuuden epävarmuutta.
