My father died in 2006 when I was in my second year of studying Visual Arts. At the same time, our family farm was lost, and my brother and his family left South Africa to get away from the severe crime situation there. It felt as if all my foundations were being destroyed, and I began to focus on this loss in my art. In 2008, I decided to experiment with digital text as a medium. The typing of text became a meditative activity for me, helping to bring healing to my situation. This work was the result of this experimentation, and it literally changed the entire course of my art career.  

Isäni kuoli vuonna 2006, kun opiskelin toista vuotta kuvataidetta. Samaan aikaan menetimme perheeni maatilan ja veljeni lähti perheineen pakoon Etelä-Afrikassa vallitsevaa vakavaa rikollisuutta. Elämäni perustukset tuntuivat hajoavan ja aloin keskittyä taiteessani menetyksen tunteeseen. Vuonna 2008 päätin kokeilla digitaalista tekstiä taiteen tekemisessä. Tekstin kirjoittaminen oli meditatiivista ja helpotti tilannettani. Teos on tämän kokeilun tulos ja muutti kirjaimellisesti koko taideurani suunnan.
