I saw a ghost of a woman in a Manor House in Sweden in 2004. She appeared slowly at the end of my bed in the dark. I am a cynical man who had no interest in the paranormal whatsoever. I have never considered women (past and present) in the same way. I started to make images of women and think about how they existed in their own time. Some were very famous while others were not such well known characters. I began to look more closely at fabric, fashion and hair and of course the history of these subjects and their lives. This print is one of many and it is based on a portrait of Madame Pompidou by Francois Boucher, painted in 1758.  

Vuonna 2004 näin naispuolisen aaveen yöpyessäni eräässä kartanossa Ruotsissa. Aave ilmestyi pimeässä hitaasti sänkyni päätyyn. Olen kyyninen mies, jolla ei koskaan ole ollut kiinnostusta paranormaaleihin hömpötyksiin. Aaveen nähtyäni en ole tarkastellut naisia (menneisyydessä tai nykyisyydessä) enää kuten ennen. Aloin luoda heistä kuvia ja ajatella, millaisia nuo naiset olivat olleet eläessään omassa ajassaan. Jotkut heistä olivat hyvin kuuluisia, toiset vähemmän. Aloin tarkastella lähemmin vaatteita, muotia, hiuksia sekä tietysti kuvaamieni hahmojen historiaa ja elämää. Tämä vedos on yksi monista ja perustuu Francois Boucherin vuonna 1758 maalaamaan Madame Pompidoun muotokuvaan.
